2024 Speaker Series

We will be presenting both American Revolutionary War and Civil War speakers, leaning more toward the American Revolution as we near 2026.


Sunday, February 11th, 2 p.m. William Welsch. Washington's Lieutenants:  The Generals of the Continental Army Look at the men who served as brigade, division, and theater commanders during the revolution.  What were their backgrounds, experiences, relations with Washington, congress, and each other.  We will also look at some interesting trivia and sidelights.  Who were the most important?  Who were the worst?

Sunday, March 3rd, 2 p.m. Dr. Patrick Hannum. 1775, Virginia's Military Situation, Military Forces and Links to Orange County. Overview of existing strategic conditions, focused on the 1775-early 1776 timeframe, and the actions to remove Lord Dunmore and royal authority from Virginia.  Some focus on Orange County and Culpeper District.

Monday, March 25th, 1 p.m. Stephen Wilson. .Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" Speech at St. John's Church. Enjoy a portrayal of Henry's famous speech and learn the historic events that led to that day.  Wilson will share the impact Henry's speech had and the vote to establish a well-regulated militia. Who were the delegates from Orange County?

Location: Visitors Center (Train Depot), 122 E. Main St., Orange, VA.

Monday, June 10th, 6 p.m. Bert Dunkerly. The Other Tea Parties. The Boston Tea Party was not the only one.  We'll learn about the others.  What happened in Virginia in 1774?
