Your support and donations will help us meet our annual goal of helping the children of needy families of Orange County Virginia have a Christmas they would otherwise not have.

Dear Orange Community,
It might be hard to believe that Christmastime is almost here, but next month really is December! Everyone knows that 2020 has been an especially crazy year, so it’s understandable to forget what month we’re in. I myself keep wondering what happened to March-July, and if those months really existed this year. To keep myself upbeat and positive, I’ve been watching plenty of Christmas movies to remind myself of the love and happiness that Christmas always brings. The Orange County Children’s Toy Box (OCCTB) is busy getting ready for the 2020 Christmas season and we need your support. Everyone already knows that 2020 is a year like no other, which is why we (OCCTB volunteers) are reaching out to you today. My request to you today remains the same as it has for the past 29 years; please put the Orange County Children’s Toy Box on your Christmas list. The OCCTB provides Christmas gifts to hundreds of Orange County children every year. Each year, we serve children from birth to age 17. We make sure that no child gets forgotten about in Orange. The OCCTB is about neighbors helping neighbors in a time of need. We get to help out Santa, help our neighbors and, most importantly, we don’t let the children in our community go without Christmas morning!
Gibson’s Rental has agreed to sponsor and house us again for the 2020 Christmas season. We really can’t thank them enough for offering us the use of their building. We will be using the back of their building again, just like last year. You can drop off your new unwrapped toys there this year or at any of our other local collection sites; including my office at Jack Samuels Realty. Be sure to look for one of our Orange County Children’s Toy Box signs throughout the county!
The program is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit public charity; therefore, your monetary donation is tax-deductible. A financial statement is available upon written request from the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs. Orange County Social Services gives us a list of eligible recipients, all of whom are Orange County residents and have asked for our help. All applicants must be approved by Social Services. We serve anywhere from 300-800 children every year.
This year we are preparing for the worst. We have been worrying about donations and applications because we understand that COVID-19 has taken a toll on everyone and the economy. In 2008 and 2009, some of the worst economic years in US history, we had more than 800 children from more than 500 different families apply for aid. We are expecting our family count to be anywhere between 350-600 for this year simply because we do not know how hard COVID-19 has impacted the families of Orange County.
Our grass-roots, Orange community program needs your support. We are currently in need of cash donations and new, unwrapped toys. Feel free to stop by Gibson’s Rental or Jack Samuels Realty, with your donations or drop a check in the mail. Checks should be made payable to Orange County Children’s Toy Box and can be mailed to P.O. Box 1117, Orange, VA 22960. We have a PayPal option on our website, www.occtoybox.org if you would like to donate electronically.
Be sure to follow us on social media for up to the minute details for shopping, packing and delivery. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we have had to make changes to our volunteer system, but volunteers will still be needed and greatly appreciated.
We will accept donations until Friday, December 11 for this year’s campaign. We would like to have all items in by December 11 for packing if possible. Donations made after this date will be applied to the 2021 campaign. This year we will be having the families pick up the gifts on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 7 am to 5 pm. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity to support our efforts to give each child a treasured Christmas memory.
