50th Anniversary of The Exchange Hotel Civil War Museum

My name is AJ Austin and I am the Vice President of the Exchange Hotel Civil War Museum. I am reaching out to let everyone know about our 50th anniversary celebration coming up Saturday October 8th from 10am to 5pm for a family fun event! We are in the process of starting to restore the exterior of the museum and decided why not do a fundraiser and celebrate 50 years since the organization was founded. If everyone could please help spread the word with the attached flyer we would really appreciate it. We are still looking for vendors and reenactors!

We are also reaching out as an organization asking if anyone would like to become a sponsor for our event, donate an item to our silent auction, or just help with a donation to the museum restoration fund. If interested, please fill out the form attached and stop by the museum during our business hours or mail it to P.O. Box 542 Gordonsville, VA 22942 (All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law) and sponsors will have their businesses posted on our social media and at our event. If you want to sponsor please attach your logo with the donation that you would like for us to display and promote!

Below is a short history of how our organization came to be:

In the late 60's and early 70's the Exchange Hotel had fallen into a state of disrepair and talks about bulldozing the building spread around town. On May 4, 1972, Historic Gordonsville INC. was recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and that's when it all began! It took many years of hard work, dedication, grants, yard sales, auctions, and donations from our community to get it back to its original condition. It was not until 1989 that the Exchange Hotel opened as a museum. Our organization is committed to preserving all the historical buildings on our property including the Hotel, kitchen house, and freight depot for many years to come.

Please take a moment if you will and look at some of these newspaper clippings throughout the years I have found and attached pertaining to the restoration of the museum along with the creation of our organization. Click on a photo.
