Horton Vineyards is a third generation, women-owned business that was founded in 1989 by Dennis and Sharon Horton. Dennis’ success in wine making inspired his family to carry on his legacy. While his wife Sharon still maintains the grapes with her vineyard crew, daughter Shannon and granddaughter Caitlin have started making wines of their own.
Shannon started her commercial wine experience by making Horton's Sparkling Wines. Under her leadership, her wines have received national recognition through Gold and Silver medals. Most recently, Shannon's Suil - Sparkling Viognier - disgorged March 2020 received 91 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate. Caitlin Horton, who is following close behind in her mother’s footsteps, released her wine, the Gears & Lace series in 2019. This series features five incredible wines, one of which is the world’s first barrel aged Pinotage Rosé. Caitlin received national recognition for her first line of wines from SciFi Magazine.
Horton Vineyards recently won 2 gold medals in the VA Governor's Cup in 2021 - Petit Verdot 2016 & Tannat 2015 and 5 silver medals. The Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition recently announced on August 20, 2021 the following awards: gold medal winners for our Barrel Select Viognier 2020, About Face, and Cabernet Franc 2017, 2 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.
